DAY 1: THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

  • Welcome and departure at 8:00 in front of your hotel or at the airport of Marrakech for 200 km of road which winds through the High Atlas mountains , with breathtaking panoramas, with an ascent to the highest pass in Morocco culminating at an altitude of 2,260 m, the Tizi N'Tichka , very often snow-covered in winter.

  • Lunch break at the imposing ksar in Aït-Ben Haddou ,  beautifully preserved fortified village and   classified as World Heritage by Unesco . Site visit before or after lunch.

  • Arrival at  Ouarzazate in the middle of the afternoon. It is the largest oasis city at the gates of the desert, in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region, the scene of inspiration for many Hollywood films for the quality of its light and its sunshine as well as for its magnificent colored adobe kasbahs ocher. It has seen its economic growth increase considerably in recent years with the largest solar energy complex in the world, called Noor.

  • Visit of the Atlas Studio: discover behind the scenes of the cinema in this maze of scenes which have been specially adapted for many Hollywood films shot in Ouarzazate, and have fun finding cult replicas of well-known films (Mission Cléopâtre, the Mummy, Gladiator...).

  • Installation at the end of the afternoon in an ecolodge in Ouarzazate under a pretty Berber tent and well-deserved relaxation by the superb swimming pool. A very beautiful green garden planted with pomegranate trees, palm trees and olive trees will bring you a pleasant touch of freshness. You will appreciate the calm and serenity of this place to enjoy a good traditional meal and rest from the journey of the day.

DAY 2: ON THE ROUTE OF 1,000 KASBAHS

  • After breakfast accompanied by delicious msemen (Berber puff pastry pancakes very popular in Morocco), visit the enormous kasbah  Taourirt, symbol of  Ouarzazate , home to a 19th-century palace  century, witness to the glorious Glaoui era, and offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding rocky landscape.

  • Lunch break  in the palm grove of Skoura which shelters remarkable kasbahs with undeniable picturesque charm.

  • Departure for the magnificent road of 1,000 kasbahs on the south-eastern slope of the High Atlas, in the Dadès valley commonly called the valley of roses to Kalaât M'Gouna, where the traditional festival in honor of with Damask rose declined in all its guises (floral water, soaps, essential oil...). It is an invitation to daydream, in enchanting landscapes adorned with verdant gardens, delicately scented rose gardens, brightly colored oleanders and  flowering almond trees in spring.

  • Typical Berber dinner and night in  a superb kasbah built on a rocky outcrop, dominating, like a sentinel, the entire Dades valley.  You will enjoy  the breathtaking view over a good glass of tea  at sunset.

DAY 3: THE GREAT MOROCCAN CANYON

  • After breakfast on the terrace, continuation of the adventure in the Dadès valley,   where the houses merge with the rock and the wadi (river) Dadès unfolds peacefully from the highlands limestones.

  • Cool picnic in one of the most striking natural sites in the country, the Todgha Gorge, near Tinghir where water flows all year round. You will take the full measure of the incredible massive walls of the canyon, with its gaping opening on the source "with sacred fish."

  • We will take the road again by the Tizi N'Tikit pass to arrive in a striking mineral setting of volcanic rocks of rare beauty, in the Jbel Saghro mountains culminating at 2,712 m in altitude and offering an unobstructed view of the Dades and Drâa valleys.

  • Dinner and night in a comfortable typical southern riad, with swimming pool, in the palm grove of Zagora . Take advantage of a digestive walk to stroll through this pretty Berber-speaking city which comes alive, at nightfall, with its colorful stalls and attractive cafes where men meet every evening to chat in the cool, around a small coffee in the milk or in front of a football match, while waiting for the usually late dinner hour.

DAY 4: MEET THE NOMADS

  • Departure for the desert of M'Hamid El Ghizlane . Along the way, you will stop at Tamegroute , a village renowned for its Koranic library and its pottery in incredible shades of green made with ancestral techniques that have not changed.

  • And then here we are... landscapes of extreme beauty bathed in a strange light, that's the charm of the desert... Hush, let yourself be guided, there's nothing more to say, just to contemplate and enjoy these moments out of time!

  • Picnic break in the freshness of the Oum-Lâalag oasis.

  • Resumption of the track to arrive just in time before sunset on Erg Chegaga. It is the most imposing dune massif in the country, the spectacle is absolutely magical and not to be missed under any circumstances!

  • Installation under your tent in a nomadic camp. A camel ride will allow you to discover this protected site effortlessly.

  • Dinner and magical evening under the stars , to the rhythm of the djembes and the  chants  Amazighs,  which indisputably convey the identity of the names, calling themselves "free men or noble men." Un  International Festival of Nomads   is organized every year in M'Hamid (formerly Taragalte) in March and October.

DAY 5: IN THE COOLNESS OF THE DRÂA OASIS

  • Departure in the morning to join the erg Lihoudi   and enjoy the last moments in the desert. Free rest until lunch.

  • Then we will resume the path of civilization with an escapade through the remote villages at the gates of the desert, in the large palm grove of Ktawa. It is populated by Berber ethnic groups of various origins, due to a mixing of populations at the time of the caravans of goods which transited between the Sahara and the north of Morocco. Their way of life, however, is the same and has remained unchanged for generations. They live in close communion with nature, their daily life being punctuated by the work of the land, the maintenance of the irrigation canals of the oases and the picking of dates. It is a simple and peaceful life, punctuated by traditional festivals which are very important in their culture.

  • Our path will continue along the  oasis of the Draa Valley which stretches majestically between Agdz and M'Hamid , along the river which bears the same name. True national treasures classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve , these palm groves are home to a rich biodiversity, contribute to the fight against desertification and provide a wide variety of agricultural products. Real source of life for the inhabitants of the region, they are at the origin of a social, economic and cultural organization which constitutes a unique ancestral heritage.

  • Dinner and night in an authentic kasbah run by a caïd   (former tribal chief) in Tamnougalte. It is a real jewel in the heart of the oasis, difficult not to get lost in this maze of corridors which conceals handicrafts testifying to the way of life of the Berbers in the past and even today.

DAY 6: GET HIGH AT TIZI N'TEST COL

  • In the early morning the mist dissipates over the oasis to give way to a magical spectacle at the time of the rising sun, which you will have the pleasure of contemplating in front of a succulent breakfast decorated with baghirs (called pancakes with a thousand holes).

  • We will start the day by crossing Agdz overlooked by le  Mont Kissane, the emblematic mountain of this pretty town.

  • Then visit Tazenakht, the capital of Berber carpets which are still woven by hand using traditional methods. Their bright and vibrant colors are obtained thanks to the quality of wool and natural dyes.

  • Lunch in Taliouine , the capital of saffron. This precious spice, called red gold, comes from the stigmas of crocus flowers and is renowned for its quality throughout the world. This will be an opportunity to taste a delicious tagine flavored with saffron. In autumn, you can admire the fields of crocuses which are adorned with their most beautiful purple dress before the harvest.

  • Then we will gain height on the steep roads of the High Atlas to finish our ascent to the Tizi N'Test pass at 2,100 m.

  • Here, there is only one refuge with no electricity, powered by solar panels, and stunning views when the sky is clear. The innkeeper will concoct a good Berber omelet in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will spend a cool and peaceful night, unless you are disturbed by a strange protected animal, the mouflon, passing through the oak woods around the refuge.

JOUR 7 : PARC NATUREL DU MONT TOUBKAL

  • En route pour le grand Parc national du Mont Toubkal, riche d'une biodiversité exceptionnelle. Il s'étend au centre des montagnes du Haut-Atlas et offre les massifs montagneux les plus originaux de tout le Maroc, marqués par leur puissant relief et la diversité de leurs roches. Trois vallées (Tahannaout, Asni, Ourika) sillonnent le parc et sont  un havre de verdure et de fraîcheur qui invite au calme et à la sérénité. Peuplées de montagnards qui ont gardé un mode de vie authentique, ils vous parleront de leur technique d'élevage, leur tradition agricole ou leur art culinaire autour d'un bon pain cuit au four à bois et servi avec du miel issu des ruches du jardin.

  • Visite de l'impressionnante mosquée de Tinmel, chef-d’œuvre architectural de la dynastie almohade. Puis déjeuner dans la vallée à Imlil. Profitez-en pour goûter la viande de chèvre achetée dans une boucherie ouverte sur la rue et grillée sur place.

  • Poursuite dans la réserve du parc national du Mt Toubkal, point culminant du Haut-Atlas avec ses 4 167 mètres. Cette montagne a donné son nom à un parc national de 38 000 ha en 1942 d'une exceptionnelle diversité, marqué par les peuplements de chêne vert et de thuya, en passant par des plantes herbacées et d'autres écosystèmes à chêne vert. Plateaux et falaises alternent avec des gorges où s'écoulent des rivières aux eaux cristallines, qui vont assurer l'irrigation dans les vallées et les plaines du piémont. Vous apercevrez en chemin le plateau du Kik, véritable grenier à céréales surplombant Asni et les petits villages berbères encastrés dans ce paysage unique de toute beauté que nous traverserons avant d'arriver à Marrakech en fin d'après-midi.
